Rating: PG13 - mpreg with mentions of sex but nothing graphic (although Chapter 24 is pushing the boundaries!)
Status: COMPLETE (oh my life, what will I do with myself now?) Word count: 13,702
Tags: Johnlock, Post-Reichenbach, Mpreg, Omegaverse (my own version), angst, fluff, established relationship.
Disclaimer: Sherlock belongs to ACD, the BBC, Moffat and Gatiss - no copyright infringement intended.
Summary: John held himself together after Sherlock jumped but the emotional strain was enormous and Sherlock didn't fare much better. When Sherlock finally returned they were both just so glad to reaffirm their bond they didn't really think about the future, or if they did they simply assumed their lives would carry on as they always had.
Author's Note: This isn't standard Omegaverse because, as I'm not comfortable writing dub/non-con scenes, I decided to create
my own version. If you want to know more about it, I've done an explanatory post here.
Chapter 62 - Blog
‘Finally,’ Sherlock leans against the flat door as the footsteps fade down the stairs, ‘I thought Molly would never leave.’
‘I know,’ John says, adroitly moving Hamish from one arm to the other as he tries to put down his tea, ‘You were remarkably circumspect about it.’
‘I believe fatherhood has mellowed me,’ Sherlock snags the cup from John and sets it down before sagging on to the sofa next to him.
John looks between Sherlock and Hamish - who blinks sleepily, one miniature hand flailing, the other clutching the edge of his blanket – and wonders how on earth he earned the right to all this happiness.
‘I know,’ Sherlock slips one arm round John as he wiggles his finger into Hamish’s fist, ‘I never believed I could have anything like this. I …Thank you, John. For everything.’
‘I love you, Sherlock’ John says simply, lifting his head for a kiss. For a few minutes, while Sherlock obliges, the only sound is Hamish’s contented gurgling.
When they pull back Sherlock nods towards the newspapers on the coffee table – each one sporting a blurry picture of the three of them on the front - and hands John his laptop.
‘Time for you to set the record straight, I think.’
John nods and, gently placing Hamish into Sherlock’s arms, settles back to update his blog.

And that’s it, Little things is done!
I’m sad. I’m really, truly sad as I’ve had such a ball writing these and made friends with some lovely people in the process *hugs you all repeatedly and tries not to blub*
However I do have Unintended Consequences on the go with kizzia to keep me occupied - expect a new chapter in the next two weeks - plus I’ve got a some half-written prequels and missing scenes to the story (not 221B’s but longer works) which currently cover, respectively:
- Sherlock & John’s first time
- Their bonding heat,
- John’s heat after the fall when he still thinks Sherlock is dead,
- What happens directly after Chapter 2 of this story
- Hamish’s conception
- A far more, um, detailed reworking of Beg
- John’s first heat after Hamish is born
So I’ve set up a series tag entitled “Fic series: All the Little things”, and if you’re interested you can track it. If you prefer I've also set up a series on AO3 here. The posting of these vignettes will be intermittent as none of them are finished and I’m now starting my Philosophy MA (going back to studying is scary but exciting) so my time will be limited but I’m so in love with my little universe I know I won’t be able to keep away for long.
The list above is not exhaustive, so if you have something you’d like to see written in this ‘verse please let me know. I’m always open to suggestions for my muse and they don’t have to be sex related, I’ll write anything :)
Plus kizzia and I are toying with the possibility of a Little things advent series, also in 221B’s, which is tentatively titled “Little Christmas things” and will which will cover Sherlock & John’s first Christmas with Hamish.
And, finally - God I do go on, don’t I! - to kick the series off I’ve posted a 221B called Body that is definitely not PG-13 so didn’t make it into the main story but actually follows straight on from Chapter 21 - Blimp. Which is here - Enjoy!

But more to come in this verse! Yaye!
I got to hold a friends very fussy baby today - he was not as calm as Hamish. *grumps*
A group of us were having an "end of summer" picnic lunch and Baby fussed unless Mom or someone who is a Mom was holding him. I think he KNEW I was unqualified for the position. ;)
Off to read Body now.

Date: 2012-09-20 07:18 pm (UTC)Right, with that out of the way....
Considering I live with a 40-pound energetic never-sleeping mass of toddler boy, I find the fact that Hamish has largely spent the entirety of his existence asleep extremely amusing. Sure, Andrew slept that much when he was that small, but God knows I don't remember it. I hope John and Sherlock are taking notes.
And as much as I hate for the series to end, I do like that it ends on such a sweet domestic note - and a sort of return to normalcy, or at least the new normalcy, with John updating his blog. Though - I'm curious, what record are they setting straight? I remember we talked about media and the media's perception of John's pregnancy, but I can't remember how that conversation went - and I admit, I'm not inclined to go back through 62 chapters of comments to find it! (Nor do I expect you to do it, so don't feel the need.)
I heartily approve of the list of upcoming Things, and if I should happen to think of Other Things to add, I'll let you know. Or, you know, hold chapters of Heart hostage or something. :)

Date: 2012-09-20 08:32 pm (UTC)I made a bit of similar noise when I finished the posting if I'm honest, I'm really going to miss this :s
And Hamish was awake in the last chapter, he was just being quiet. Which I realise is probably wishful thinking on my part but I just wanted some domestic bliss. If it makes you feel better he started screaming about five seconds after John put him in Sherlock's arms and Sherlock ended up singing to him up in the nursery for and hour before he would settle.
The straightening of the record is the fact that they didn't give a statement to the press about Hamish's birth so currently the parts of the British public who read the newspapers think that Hamish is, variously a girl called Mary, a girl called Shirley Joan, a boy called Alphonse Algernon Holmes junior (yes, that was the Sun), a boy called James Richard (I think Kitty Reilly may have been behind that one) and a girl called Persephone Harriet. John had such a bad giggling fit when he read the 'Shirley' one he gave himself hiccoughs!

Date: 2012-09-21 02:56 am (UTC)Well, even if all the papers are wrong, at least John and Sherlock can assure themselves that there weren't any leaks at the hospital!

Will I really have no choice but to finish it this weekend?
I will make and send you cookies, actual white chocolate cranberry cookies with a dash of brandy...in exchange for whatever you feel like writing next...
Every good story has an ending, and I must accept this fact. All responsible writers know how their story will end when they begin gifting their readers with it.
Deep breaths in and out...a finished story for me, a new story begun for you, and cookies all around...sounds like a good weekend to me!

Date: 2012-09-23 01:37 pm (UTC)I've booked a self-catering apartment in Toronto for a week for my birthday. Farmers' markets, art galleries, museums, islands in Lake Erie, oh my!
I'll be posting pictures while I'm gone, so get ready for a virtual holiday...
Off to finish Little Things in a bit...*sniff*

This reminds me of all the times I've held my baby cousins. These days, it's my baby nephews, especially the latest one. For some odd reason, he's decided that Aunty Stitch is good company and will willingly demand that I pick him up and stay next to me while he visits us. XD

Date: 2012-09-23 03:28 pm (UTC)Sigh. This was a very satisfying journey you've taken us on. You've evolved these characters believably whilst keeping them in character and making it clear that parenthood will not fundamentally change the nature of these men or their relationship to one another.
I can't wait to see more of baby Hamish. It's nice to have a little world to fall into for a while to write something short and get a break from everything else. It's very soothing...

Especially happy to hear there may be some that aren't 221Bs - you've done a very good job with these and I'd happily read more, but it's just not a format I'm a big fan of as a rule. I'm just greedy and like a nice longish story to sink my teeth into. ;)

Date: 2012-09-26 06:16 am (UTC)Wonderful series, love the 221b format, and you managed to convey so much in so few words at a time. I wish the artist for your story has more time to draw more, because that image of Hamish in John's arms with one hand flailing and another clutching the blanket is absolutely PRECIOUS. Makes me itch for a pencil LOL
I love this story/series. Another! *throws metaphorical glass like Thor did* :)
