Summary: John held himself together after Sherlock jumped but the emotional strain was enormous and Sherlock didn't fare much better. When Sherlock finally returned they were both just so glad to reaffirm their bond they didn't really think about the future, or if they did they simply assumed their lives would carry on as they always had.
Needless to say they soon discover that their prolonged separation has had a very specific effect on John; the results of which mean nothing will ever be the same again. Told entirely in 221B’s this story charts all the little things Sherlock and John experience as their lives change forever.
The B’s so far are Blood, Breathe, Bag, Beta, Bucket, Brother, Brilliant, Bet, Best, Bother, Bang, Bleak, Beginning, Baby, Born, Biscuit, Beneath, Bump, Basement, Beetroot, Blimp, Blur, Benedict, Beg, Break, Butterfly, Boy, Brooding, Bemused, Blue, Broken, Bourbon, Before, Breeches, Bedroom, Bewildered, Bassinet, Bee, Bach, Black & Blinked.

Author's Note: This isn't standard Omegaverse because, as I'm not comfortable writing dub/non-con scenes, I decided to create
my own version. If you want to know more about it, I've done an explanatory post here.

Chapter 41 - Blinked

He can hear voices above him, muffled and echoing and he thinks he's somehow got stuck in the ocean. The words make no sense but he listens anyway.

'She's been dealt with, Sherlock, that's all you need to know.'

'Look at him, Mycroft! Look what she did to him!'

'Yes, Sherlock, but please calm down.  I won't be able to prevent them sedating you if you keep going for much longer.'

'I'm trying.'

'Try harder.'

'He was so still, Mycroft. I thought ...'

'I know, Sherlock, I know ... Here, have my handkerchief.'

He wonders if they've moved away as he can't hear them anymore, just a strange gurgling mixed with a shushing sound. Maybe he's on a beach?

'If anything happens to him, to them, I ...'

'Mr Holmes?'

'Yes?'

'I'm Doctor Abrams.'

'Irrelevant. Tell me what's wrong with John!'

'Apart from being unconscious?  Nothing. Both your bond-mate and your son are perfectly healthy.'

'Healthy! That’s your diagnosis! Why hasn't he woken then?'

'That's like asking why the sky is blue, Mr Holmes. He's taken a blow to the head. He's resting. He'll wake when he's ready. Now if you'll excuse me.'

He remembers now. Harry. He fell and ... Son? Did he say son?

'I want a second opinion, Mycroft, I don't care how qualified he is I ...'

'Sherlock!'

'What!'

'John just blinked.'

Awesome on several levels. I love that Sherlock is going completely bonkers and doesn't notice John waking up, and that Mycroft is the voice of reason, and that they find out the sex of the baby by a slip of the tongue and Sherlock doesn't even hear it. But John does! Too excellent.

So...was John just unconscious, or was he in a coma, or what? What's the noise he hears, a ventilator? Or something else? I almost think it sounded a bit like what it supposedly sounds like in the womb, but that can't be right, can it?

OK so the gurgling and shushing bit was supposed to allude to the fact that Sherlock was crying and Mycroft was comforting him. That really didn't work did it!
And John was just deeply unconscious, not comatose. Sherlock was just really, really losing the plot.
But you thought it was awesome! *does happy dance*

I think it's the references to water/oceans that threw me off. But that's okay, it wasn't a big deal for me, because I enjoyed the rest of it. :)

Harry dealt with by Mycroft... yeah, that'll do. Might even be better than being dealt with by Sherlock as he had more important people to be paying attention to.

Son huh? Is Sherlock going to be all smug and "see I was right all along"?

Yes, I think Harry may be regretting her actions right about now *evil grin of evilness*
Yes, a son. Because it had to happen. And as for how Sherlock reacts ... you'll just have to wait and see :)

**** happy jig! ****
Yea! ALL IS WELL!!
And John now knows he is carrying a boy. Sherlock is too releived to hear anything but that John is ok.
Though I do worry a little about Harry being dealt with by Mycroft, but serves her right I guess...

I haven't asked Mycroft what he meant by "dealt with" - I'm choosing to assume he means he's had Harry admitted to a secure rehab facility. If not, well, as you say she does deserve it!

I have to sympathize with Sherlock in this case. I'd be freaking out, berating doctors, and generally being a nuisance, too! It is a bit funny, though, that he completely misses the fact that the doctor tells them the sex of the baby (a boy!) and that John is actually starting to wake up. Heh. Poor Sherlock. I did get that he was crying and Mycroft was trying to comfort him.

I choose to believe that Mycroft just forced Harry into a secure rehab center rather than something more...er...dramatic (which would be Sherlock's choice!), knowing that John would never forgive them if something happened to his sister (even after what she did, he's like that).

I'm curious to see how Sherlock reacts to having it confirmed that they're having a boy. I wonder if he hadn't started getting used to the idea of having a little girl and is a bit...not disappointed, but maybe a wee bit melancholy about the father-daughter things he was dreaming up. Then again, I could be giving Sherlock way too much credit and instead he gets all puffed up that he was right in the first place! LOL

I think Sherlock's reaction is sheer blind panic - Blind being the operative word! Given that he's only just allowed himself to react to Ford's death, over twenty years after it happened, he isn't going to be properly himself at the moment (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).
As for how he reacts - that'll be in the next chapter ;)

*Phew!*

your bond-mate and your son
Whoops! That Doctor just broke Rule no. 1 of working with a pregnant patient assume that they don't know (and don't want to know) the sex of the unborn child.

I think I kind of love the fact that John figured out 'son' and was waking up before Sherlock noticed. Poor Sherlock, he's going to need a lot of John!cuddles. I bet he's going to be a monster when they get home. Constantly proping John up with pillows and making sure he's comfortable with anything he could want in arms reach. In general, making a nuisance of himself.

As for Harry, perhaps Mycroft and his powers will help her dry out...

Funny you should say that about Sherlock ... *eyes next few chapters* ...
And yes, Mycroft has assured me that Harry is in capable hands ;)

Yes, all alright - I really can't do prolonged angst, I'm hopeless that way :)
And thank you - I'm just so pleased that you're enjoying reading this as much as I've enjoyed writing it! *hugs you *

Thank you! So glad you're enjoying it. I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to reply, I've been suffering from the chest infection from hell and I've not been up to much.

The gurgling and shushing completely translated to Sherlock crying into Mycroft's handkerchief. No worries. :-)
