Summary: John held himself together after Sherlock jumped but the emotional strain was enormous and Sherlock didn't fare much better. When Sherlock finally returned they were both just so glad to reaffirm their bond they didn't really think about the future, or if they did they simply assumed their lives would carry on as they always had.
Needless to say they soon discover that their prolonged separation has had a very specific effect on John; the results of which mean nothing will ever be the same again.
Told entirely in 221B’s this story charts all the little things Sherlock and John experience as their lives change forever.
The B’s so far are Blood, Breathe, Bag, Beta, Bucket, Brother and Brilliant.
Author's Note: This isn't standard Omegaverse because, as I'm not comfortable writing dub/non-con scenes, I decided to create my own version. If you want to know more about it, I've done a special post here.

Chapter 7 - Brilliant

John’s warm and comfortable, the low rumble vibrating through his entire body making him feel safe and secure. He wants to stay like this, drifting peacefully, but gradually the rumble coalesces into words and he begins to surface.

‘… coal and ketchup? That's completely illogical.’

‘It’s a craving, it’s … Oh look, the poor dear’s waking. I’ll leave you to it, then. You look after him now!’

‘Sherlock?’ he says, well, tries to say. All he manages is a croak.

‘How are you feeling, love?’

He blinks and swallows. Sherlock never uses that tone or that endearment – any endearment for that matter – outside of the bedroom and it adds to his disorientation.

‘Sleepy. Confused.’

‘Here, let’s sit up.’ He feels Sherlock’s muscles tense beneath him and then they’re moving, Sherlock cradling him so carefully he begins to panic. Until his brain kicks in properly. Right, yes, I'm pregnant, Sherlock's apparently fine with that. I fell asleep and then …

‘Was that Mrs Hudson?’ he asks, the word craving echoing round his head.

‘Yes. She’s thrilled. Obviously.’

‘You told her!’

‘She said you'd be cross. That you'd want to wait until you're much further along ... I’m sorry.’

He looks up at Sherlock in amazement, ‘Apologies and endearments? Are you OK?’

‘I’m more than OK,’ Sherlock’s smile is dazzling, ‘You’re having my baby, John. I’m brilliant.’

Ah! Love it! Trust MrsH to tell Sherlock off for spilling the beans. And I love how sweet Sherlock is, and how confused John gets because of it. Mushy-fluffy yes!

I'm so glad you liked it - wan't quite sure if everyone would accept Sherlock's reaction but I couldn't write it any other way
And yes, MrsH just had to be the one to instruct Sherlock on pregnancy etiquette ;)
Thanks again for commenting

It is surprising that Sherlock is this over the moon about it, but it totally works, honestly. Again, I think it's the fact that the chapters are so short, each exists within its own little world and we're more willing to roll with it within the space of it.

You've also managed to get the characters spot on, so that helps. When it's actual Sherlock in my head who is acting a bit unexpectedly it's easier to accept than if it's a Sherlock who is otherwise ooc.

I'm really pleased you think the characters are written right - I find Sherlock really difficult and worry endlessly that I'm getting him wrong.
I have to admit his reaction surprised me - but from the minute I wrote him kneeling down in front of John and starting his deduction there was only one way I could go.

Cleaning out my inbox syndrome = odd responses to older posts.

Sherlock is one of those characters who is much more open to interpretation than most. Most fic authors focus on either one or two aspects of his character and write him with very little regard for the others. It's easier to get him to sound right than to act right for the entire fic.

I completely include myself here - the issue is that we're writing the Sherlock which exists in our own heads. I can perfectly picture my Sherlock on the TV screen in my head. To others, I've left out important elements...it's really very subjective. Perhaps this is why so many Sherlock authors work in AU - it helps them deal with the missing elements of Sherlock's eccentricities.

One of my favorite examples is how differently pargoletta and I write Sherlock. If you have some time, do check out her journal, or at least her story Nearer My God to Thee here http://pargoletta.livejournal.com/109674.html

Having read most of my fic recently, you'll immediately notice the difference in characterization, and this fic is amazing - Competent!Doctor!John as well as Sarah who carries a hideous handbag, but said hideous object turns out to be utterly indispensable...yes, the handbag is paramount.

and that was Cabin Pressure...created by John Finnemore ...

I did recognise the quote - Kiz is obsessed so I am now up to speed (she has a jumper with the Martin Crieff version of the eliminate the impossible quote on it!)
Amd thank you so much for this link, I shall go and check it out.
