I just had to share this with you all - it's a quote from my friend Kiz's facebook page.  She's just attempted to read "50 Shades of Grey" and having given up, posted this:

"Well, I gave in and downloaded "50 shades of Grey". I would suggest no-one else bothers. If you want to read sex scenes I suggest you pick a book/TV programme/film that you fancy a character from and go and search a fan fiction website for them. You'll find far more erotic, far better written stories there than this travesty of a novel and - the best bit - the fan fiction is free!"

I think she has a point (the few pages visible on Amazon that I've just read were hysterical and not in a good way) and I certainly won't be going anywhere near it.  Has anyone else read this? Have views? Would love to know!

I've heard about it of course, but I wouldn't bother to spend any money on this! How this book became such a bestseller is beyond me...

I suspect this is a case of a publisher being damn good at their job - shame they didn't get behind something well written!

My sister read an excerpt that had been posted online somewhere, and said it was beyond her how anyone could consider it to be good writing; she read Twilight and said the writing is barely above that level.

Then I have older relatives on Facebook and even a girl I work with going on about how it's one of the best series they've ever read, and how they recommend it to everyone. O.o I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole as, like you said, if I wanted to read that type of story I'd go and find some decent fanfiction which I can get for free. =P

It makes you wonder what they've all been reading up to now if they think this is good writing! Ah well, each to their own I suppose.

Would just like to point out the rumour is that it was once Twilight fan fiction.

Twilight is also really bad vampire fan fiction, but that's just my opinion lol.

Twilight is ... there are no words that aren't completely rude and not things nice girls should say :)
I will however mention that I would like punch Bella so hard that her one brain cell might split into two and give at least the impression of increased intelligence.
And breath ...

(Ah, you're listening to Death Cab, I love them.)

I heard that the writer was a big Twilight fan who wasn't really into vampires and wanted to re-write it as a non-vampire sexy fic.

Then a publisher saw it on-line and picked it up to publish it.

All the women in work are reading it and fainting about how rude it is.

I haven't read it, but already know from what they are saying that it doesn't even approach fanfic in the risque stakes. I can't say anything to them obviously.... (Goes back to reading her M/A knotting fanfic... *LOL*)

That's pretty much what Kiz said - the woman is insipid, the writing one dimensional and most fan fiction has better sex scenes. I won't be bothering :)
